The CCOV announces the choreographer for its next production

On this International Dance Day, it is with great pleasure that the Centre de Création O Vertigo – CCOV announces the arrival of Catherine Gaudet as the 3rd artist recipient of the CCOV Production program. After Dana Gingras / Animals of Distinction, author of Frontera in 2019, Yvon “Crazy Smooth” Soglo, choreographer of the work IN MY BODY, scheduled to premiere in the winter of 2022, the CCOV continues its mission of career support and will host Catherine and her team starting in September for a period of three years.

With this new association, Catherine Gaudet is preparing to embark on her first large-scale piece. Designed for choreographers to devote themselves 100% to the creation of works that mark important turning points in their careers, the ‘CCOV Productions’ program will help Catherine continue her artistic ascent.

“It is with immense honour and great joy that I approach the CCOV long-term residency. I have been wanting for a long time to create a work for a large group. This need was becoming increasingly pressing for me. However, it is always difficult to finance creations with many dancers. This is why I see the support given by the CCOV as an opportunity – all too rare – to dream big and strong. It is also an opportunity to take time. The time so necessary to seek in a concentrated, refined and assertive way; to dig, question and risk. I thus aspire to put in place, during my presence at the CCOV, the conditions for a serious dive into the heart of the practice, for all the collaborators associated with the project.” Catherine Gaudet

Returning to the CCOV
After having conceived, dreamed and launched the CCOV in 2016, Ginette Laurin, Caroline Laurin-Beaucage, Mélanie Demers and Catherine Gaudet, the initiators of the project to transform O Vertigo into a creation centre, left the management of the organization to a brand new team headed by Paul Caskey as Executive Director.

“We are very excited to embark on this collaboration with Catherine. Her exquisite eye for detail, poignant understanding of human relationships and finely honed choreographic craft have earned her accolades in Montréal and beyond. This ambitious project arrives at the perfect time in Catherine’s career, and the CCOV team embraces the opportunity to accompany her over the coming years.”  Paul Caskey

“CCOV Productions”: a success
Five years after its creation, the “CCOV Productions” program has demonstrated its relevance in the Québec and Canadian dance landscape. While FRONTERA, by Dana Gingras, has been presented in Montréal, Québec, Vancouver, as well as in Germany and Australia, IN MY BODY, by Crazy Smooth, is already generating excitement across the country, notably through the support of the National Arts Centre’s National Creation Fund and that of the CanDanse network which includes the Canadian Stage and Dance Immersion (Toronto), the Yukon Arts Centre (Whitehorse), the Banff Center for the Arts and Brian Webb Dance Company (Edmonton).

In addition, the incredible quality of the production projects received during the call for projects proves the relevance of a program that we hope to see flourish while continuing to offer, every three years, rare and valuable working conditions to a new creator.

The entire CCOV team welcomes Catherine Gaudet and her entire team and we are already looking forward to providing you with news of the work in progress.
